Do these cases of government debt and budget deficit indicate potential problems for the economy?
Filed Under Debt | 2 Comments
Does the size of the government’s debt and the size of the budget deficit indicate potential problems for the economy in any of these cases?
1. The government’s debt is relatively low, but the government is running a large budget deficit as it builds a high-speed rail system to connect the major cities of the nation.
2. The government’s debt is relatively high due to a recently ended deficit-financed war, but the government is now running only a small budget deficit.
3. The government’s debt is relatively low, but the government is running a budget deficit to finance the interest payments on the debt.

Also, can a revolving line of credit (it’s also a atm card) be included in a debt consolidation? And can I choose to leave out a loan or specific credit card where I have 0%?

I would like to get a debt consolidation loan for my outstanding debt from closed credit cards, old utility bills, etc
I have student loans, but I would like to consolidate them separatley and not through another loan.
Also, I have an auto loan, would the loan be able to cover that as well?
Please, real answers, and no opinions/judgements.
Thank You.

What are the pros and cons of using debt relief agencies to get rid of debt? What does it do to your credit?
Filed Under Debt | 3 Comments
Those debt relief agencies that help you get rid of debt fast tell you to stop paying your bills and instead you pay them. They then use the money you send them to negotiate lower payoffs to your lenders. What are the pros and cons of doing this and how long will it effect my credit score for? Any experience is extrememly welcomed!

Is it better to use a debt consolidation service or contact creditors directly?
Filed Under Debt | Comments Off
I owe on 3 credit cards. One is starting to fall behind on the payments as its too much to pay. Which route is the way to go? Debt consolidation or contacting creditors explaining that I was living beyond my means now I am having trouble paying.
On the one card I’m having trouble with (Chase), my monthly balance is $299 but I can afford to pay $180 a month to them. I’ve heard horror stories where people get the WORST treatment when they try to set up payment plans with credit card companies. Do most companies decline an offer of a payment arrangement? I can get back to more payments in January or February but now is hard.

How old does a debt have to be, before you are no longer legally bound to pay it?
Filed Under Debt | 11 Comments
I remember hearing once that a debt after a certain amount of years, is moot. Does it depend on the state where the debt occurred or you current state of residence?
I heard that collection agencies that specialize in buying old debts, to try and collect on, HATE for people to know about these laws. Where does one look up information about this? And what exactly does one do to bring it to the attention of the collection people, that you are no longer obligated by law to pay on such an old debt?
